Gargantua, the mime, is dead.
I know only he so loved the stage
that he left his footprint on the catwalk
so all who chanced to see
might wonder at his absence and remember

the robust profile in the light
lit by mooning candles, and in the wings
the sound of one hand clapping
a coined response to words
that Gargantua might have spoken

were there only time, only steps to quicken
the beating of this dancer's heart.
"Death," said Gargantua, "is no triangle."
It is round, like all good flesh is round
and weighted by its bones. Gargantua

the mime, may never dance again.
